Ms. Shafer is an Associate at Adams Silva & McNally LLP, where her practice focuses on a wide variety of legal issues facing school districts, including special education, labor and employment, student discipline issues, and governance.
Ms. Shafer brings over 15 years of legal experience, with expertise in representing school districts in special education and civil rights related matters, as well as several years serving as in-house counsel for a large Southern California school district.
Ms. Shafer earned her undergraduate degree from UC Berkeley, majoring in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. As an undergraduate, she taught organic chemistry for an organization dedicated to increasing the success of women, underrepresented minorities, and low-income students in the sciences.
Before attending law school, she worked as a research scientist and taught science in public high schools. Her work as a scientist was published in the prestigious scientific journal, Nature. She earned her law degree from the University of Southern California in 2007, where she was published in the Southern California Review of Law and Social Justice and received a grant from the public interest law foundation for her work representing victims of domestic violence.
